Hope & Despair

As I opened the gift wrap, I found three decoration stones in it with SMILE, LAUGH, and HOPE engraved on each separate one of them. First, I looked at it for a brief moment and then thought what this truly meant. The whole thought-process started all over again.

I would like to talk about hope as this word leads our lives to a better future. Hope is something that everyone encounters everyday and after this hide-and-seek of hope and despair that I faced during my exam week, my thought process was triggered. What is hope and why do people hope? E.g. hopes for a better future, hopes for achieving things that aren’t in our reach, hopes for better grades, etc.  I think in order to live this life to the fullest we have to keep a strong bond with hope. To let go of hope is like letting go of the last chance of saving your life. If we lose hope, we would not be able to achieve goals that we hold so dear to ourselves. It is HOPE that keeps us going.

Sometimes, we try our best and don’t get the desired results but this doesn’t mean that we should lose hope. And it doesn’t mean at all that we should lose faith in God. Infact, God is what makes me believe that there is someone up there to take care of such circumstances. I have faced many such situations myself and have seen other people who lost hope just because they didn’t get the desired results or the situations didn’t favor them. I read this somewhere and I quote: “A wise man sat in the audience and cracked a joke. Everyone laughed like crazy. After a moment, he cracked the same joke again. This time less people laughed. He cracked the same joke again and again. When there is no laughter in the crowd, he smiled and said: You can’t laugh at the same joke again and again, then why do you keep crying over the same thing again and again?” I agree with the wise man. Why do we keep whining about the same stuff over and over when we know that it is not going to lead us anywhere. Instead, you should try and think about strategies which can help you get back on track. It is hard to execute but not impossible. Everyone faces setbacks in their lives but the strongest one among us is the one who gets back up the quickest, the one who instead of dwelling on the past thinks about strategies and sets new goals. Remember, the higher the goal is, the more the setbacks.
